EXTINCT ANIMALS
Hello readers! This last weeks our writers have been researching the impact of human beings in the natural world, especially, the animals that have died out :(. Together, we have found incredible and unknown animals that used to live in our planet. To this end, each writer has chosen an extinct animal and have written a little description about it (and have drawn an amazing picture of it as well). Keep reading and enjoy!
VEGA
Olms live more than 100 years. The Olms lived in Bosnia Herzegovina and in the Balkans in rivers. Olms were between 20 and 30cm long and it looked like a big worm. The trunk is cylindrical, of uniform thickness. They died from industrial and water pollution by man. They disappeared 861 years ago.
EMMA
The monk seal was a seal that the mother was 2.90m long and weighed 300kg. The father was 308cm long and weighed 340kg. Its fur was brown, but the belly was white-yellow. Their babies were born with all the body in black, but then it was like its moms and dads. They lived on the caribbean. The seal was extinct in 1994. That spieces died out because of humans hunting. The monk seal ate fish like tuna, salmons, crustaceans...
OMAR
The megalodon lived between 19 ,8 and 2,6 million years ago. It was a species of gigant shark that lived between the oligocene and pliocene in America, Australia, Asia and the Canary Islands. Until 2.6 million years ago, the gigant shark was the largest depredator in the seas predators. It seems that killer whales could be what killed the biggest shark in history. It is black and with its mouth could kill every living creature in the sea.
JULIA
The Bilby lived in central Australia. The Bilby is medium-small size as it weighed 450 grams. Its skin color was between brown and gray and its tail was white. It looked like a rabbit or a mouse and it had a long mouth. It ate mostly insects. It died out between the 1950s and 1960s because of humans hunting.
MARCOS
The Smilodon is a feline that lived in the Pliocene, appeared in North America and spread to South America. The males weighed 300 kilos and the females too. They measure the same size as an African lion and are known for their long canines that could exceed 17 centimeters. Not surprisingly, they were carnivores. They became extinct due to food shortages and lived on the plains of North and South America.
ANGELA
The Dunkleosteus is an extinct animal. It could cut in half a shark. It lived 400 million ago. It was 10 metres long and weight 4 tons. The Dunkleosteus lived in the devonic period. It was a placodermo, a type of fish with a shell. It skull was 1,2 metres. His fins were very small the tail had 1,4 metres long.
